How do designers want to relate - and how can they relate - to the major issues of the 21st century? In the subsequent session, under the leadership of design critic Gert Staal, the specific qualities of Dutch Design in 2009 were discussed.

Making products without guilt feelings: that is, according to the British design critic Alice Rawsthorn, the task facing designers. Rawsthorn, respected design and fashion journalist at the International Herald Tribune and Chair of the international jury for the Rotterdam Design Prize 2009, gives her vision on the future of design in this speech.
