In 1916 Willem Hendrik Gispen established a forge in Rotterdam, where he made forged items such as lamps, stoves, shop signs and bridge railings. Over the next ten years, the company began to specialise in the production of lamps and tubular-steel furniture. Gispen’s simple, streamlined fixtures and innovative tubular furniture played an important role in the modernisation of the Netherlands. Gispen is now a hundred years old. We are celebrating this anniversary with an exhibition devoted to extraordinary items produced by the company: Gispen Specials. These unique or limited-edition products were developed in response to special commissions or emerged from experiments. The exhibition shows that innovation and fulfilling customers’ wishes are in Gispen’s genes and continue to shape its products today.
The exhibition 'Gispen Specials - The Customer is Always Right' is on display from 10 September 2016 - 26 February 2017.
