One of the Zuiderzee Museum’s principal tasks is that of preservation. Jos Kranen and Johannes Gille of Kranen/Gille design studio took this as a starting point for their Comber’s Cabinet project. The two were fascinated by the remarkable objects they found in the Museum’s depot of requisites, such as an anonymous pipe, a spout, a flask and a glass eye… They ‘combed’ a total of nine ‘treasures’ from the depot and gave them a new context by gold-plating them and putting them in specially designed lamps made of old glass preservation jars and displaying them as a present-day collection of curiosities.
