Bad Thoughts: Collection Sanders - at home

00:07:00 Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam
On the basis of four works from their collection collectors Martijn and Jeannette Sanders talk about the process of collecting: When do they buy a work? Are there any bad buys? Is there a common thread in the themes? Do they always agree on their purchases? What happens to the works that no longer fit in the house?

Martijn and Jeannette Sanders began collecting art in the 1970s. For the Sanders, collecting art is both a personal matter and an intuitive process.

The Sanders Collection is one of the most important private collections in the Netherlands. It contains a diverse array of several hundred paintings, sculptures, assemblages, photos, drawings, text-based artworks, films, videos, and installations by over 350 mostly European and American artists. With work by David Claerbout, Gilbert & George, Anton Henning, Anselm Kiefer, Cindy Sherman and many others. Collecting is their way of life, and their collection can be read as a personal journal.

Bad Thoughts is on display from 20 July 2014 - 11 January 2015 in Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam
