“Making this show felt like a near-death experience, but I also believe it has set me free”, says AMVK (Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven) about AMVK, the survey exhibition she put together with curator Anders Kreuger in M HKA (Antwerp). Portrait of a pioneer.

AMVK (Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven) has worked 2 years on the survey show under the title of her acronym. Both AMVK herself and curator Anders Kreuger agree that it is a well-chosen title, because it turned out to be a very personal overview of her work and life - the two are closely linked together. Both the museum show and her oeuvre start from her video work, her favourite art discipline where she is able to combine all of her artistic activities into a 'Gesamtwerk'. 'People often tell me that they understand my work primarily through my films', she admits.
