Het Nieuwe Instituut is the museum of architecture, design and e-culture. The building next to the Museumpark hosts exhibitions and debates on the various design disciplines, including graphic design, product design, games, fashion, (interior) architecture, urban planning and landscape architecture. In addition, the institute maintains an extensive archive on the work and life of Dutch architects and urban planners. The institute has three main functions: presentation, research and conservation. All three functions involve looking at the past as well as into the future.
The Sonneveld House, situated on the edge of Museumpark in Rotterdam, is one of the best-preserved homes built in the Dutch Functionalist style. A ‘designer-in-residence’ programme invites contemporary designers to respond to the house and interior with present-day design interventions.
