Looking for surprises, unexpected connections, and unusual encounters in modern art and design? STEDELIJK BASE brings together nearly 700 highlights from the Stedelijk collection to show the evolution of art and design from 1880 until now. It is the first-ever major, integrated presentation of art and design in the history of the museum.

STEDELIJK BASE offers a perfect introduction to modern art and design, while at the same time challenging art lovers to see iconic works in a new context. STEDELIJK BASE encourages you to follow your own route, so come and have a look in the ABN AMRO Gallery and (re)discover masterpieces from Kazimir Malevich, Piet Mondrian, Gerrit Rietveld, Nola Hatterman, Charley Toorop, Barnett Newman, Yves Klein, Roy Lichtenstein, Ed van der Elsken, Yayoi Kusama, and Sheila Hicks.

Next, take the escalator up to the VandenEnde Foundation Gallery, where part 2 of STEDELIJK BASE continues with an extraordinary installation by Barbara Kruger, as well as art from the 1980s to the present day, featuring work by Jeff Koons, Anselm Kiefer, Maarten Baas, Nan Goldin, and Marlene Dumas, among many others.
