5 videos

The video series The Future of Fashion is Now introduces six fashion talents who work on the cutting edge of fashion and art. They presented their designs in the successful exhibition 'The Future of Fashion is Now' in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, among work by renowed innovators like Viktor&Rolf and Hussein Chalayan.

The Future of Fashion is Now

The Future of Fashion is Now focuses on new visions and fresh designs by young fashion designers from all over the world. It seeks out designers with non-Western backgrounds and designers from the fringes of Europe, where until recently there was effectively no fashion tradition, who are actively looking to modernize the fashion system. The latest generation of fashion designers takes a critical view of the current fashion system. They are coming up with innovative solutions and fresh designs at the cutting edge of fashion and art. Sustainability, futuristic technologies and the social value of clothes are themes with which these designers address the fashion of the future.

Han Nefkens Fashion on the Edge

Six fashion designers made new work exclusively for the exhibition, enabled by the Han Nefkens Fashion on the Edge: an initiative by the writer, patron and art activist Han Nefkens and fashion guru José Teunissen (ArtEZ Institute for the Arts) in collaboration with Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. Its mission is to foster fashion talent that works at the cutting edge of fashion and art, initiate commissions and support research into valuable changes in the fashion scene.

Commissions

For the exhibition, fourteen international talent scouts for The Future of Fashion is Now put forward the three most promising and interesting fashion designers of their country or network working at the cutting edge of fashion and art. The jury - Viktor & Rolf, Vogue's editor Karin Swerink, curator Vassilis Zidianakis and of course Han Nefkens and José Teunissen - has granted six young fashion designers / fashion initiatives the award: Iris van Herpen (NL), Craig Green (GB), D&K (Ricarda Bigolin & Nella Themelios, AU), Olek (PL), Digest Design (CN) en Lucia Cuba (PE). They each developed a new work on the border between fashion and art. These new works are on display in the exhibition 'The Future of Fashion is Now' at Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. In this video series, the six designers and curator José Teunissen illuminate the designs made.
