Han Nefkens Fashion on the Edge, an initiative from Han Nefkens and José Teunissen in collaboration with Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, focuses on the edge of fashion and the visual arts. Han Nefkens Fashion on the Edge was set up in 2006 and organizes highly distinctive exhibitions with works by established and up-and-coming fashion talents, often awarded with the Han Nefkens Fashion Award. To name a few: Christophe Coppens, Regina Pyo, Lucia Cuba and Iris van Herpen.
Han Nefkens has a longstanding relationship with Viktor & Rolf. Pieces from Viktor & Rolf’s ‘Zen Garden’ and ‘Red Carpet’ collection were included in the successful exhibition ‘The Future of Fashion is Now’, which was shown at Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in the autumn of 2014 and from October 2015 onwards in China. Recently Han Nefkens bought pieces from the ‘Van Gogh Girls’ and the ‘Wearable Art’ collection. He donated them to Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. Han Nefkens: ‘It gives me great pleasure that these creations by the leading Dutch couturiers will be seen by a large audience in the museum. They form part of our cultural heritage.’
Other initiatives by Han Nefkens:
• The Han Nefkens H+F Collection. This collection – comprising close to 500 works – is housed in a number of European museums.
• The ArtAids foundation, which employs art in the fight against the stigma surrounding HIV.
• The Han Nefkens Foundation, which stimulates young artists, writers and fashion designers with commissions, residencies, prizes and stipends. In Spain, the Han Nefkens Foundation-MACBA Award focuses on artists from the Mediterranean area, while the Han Nefkens Foundation-BACC Award for Contemporary Art in Bangkok is given to promising young Asian artists.
